Lyndi Sales • “Red is my favourite colour right now. It symbolises passion and that’s my current mood”
What’s your favourite colour right now? Why?
Red, it symbolises passion and that’s my current mood.
What was the first album you bought (or, if you’re not that old, downloaded)?
Purple Rain by Prince
What’s something that would surprise people about you?
I look small and fragile but I’m strong.
Tea or coffee?
How do you start your creative process?
I meditate for 20 minutes when I get to my studio.
How do you feel when you’re creating an artwork?
Often time stands still, I’m lost in the moment and able to block out the rest of the world. It helps me to be in the Now.
When you’re busy with a piece do you tend to love it, hate it, or love-hate it?
I mostly love it. If things aren’t working, I keep working away at it. If still not, I file the work away and more often than not, I eventually cut it up.
Right now, what are you reading/watching/listening to?
I’m reading the “Tibetan book of living and dying” as well as “Brave new world” By Aldous Huxley. I'm also listening to an audio book called the “Psychedelic Experience” by Timothy Leary. I’m listening to Cigarettes after Sex and a bunch of other artists that resonate. I often create specific playlists that evoke emotion.
What do you wish you were better at?
Writing rationales for my work.
Name one thing that makes you angry, and one thing that makes you happy.
My kids can make me see red at times.
Too many happy ones to choose from. Dancing, being in nature, being a kid with my kids, taking psychedelics ☺, yoga, meditating and making art makes me happy.
How or where do you find inspiration?
Nature, science and technology, personal experiences.
Describe your alter ego. / In a parallel universe, what would you be doing?
A mystic or a white witch
Best place you’ve ever been?
I just love the colours, the people, the rawness and otherworldliness, it’s so different to where I come from.
What question has always perplexed you?
Where do we go when we die?
Last question. Why are you an artist?
Because I live to create.
