Wind mark - a little part of a larger whole

This little piece is part of a larger body of works that have been guided by the Wind. Attempts at transcribing marks made by the Wind, traces of movement left on a thin piece of spinnaker sailcloth.

What is held in material memory?

The sailcloth was held in the veld, untethered. The Wind lifted and gently moved the cloth through the landscape. It folded and unfurled and was briefly held by grasses and bushes. In its movement the cloth gathered earth sediments and grass seeds.  Little creases and marks inscribed into the material - results of material moving with Winds movement.  Several lines of force are retained by the cloth, residues of interactions between Wind, bush, grass, earth, stones and the waste plastic that now hold the transcription marks.

The sounds of these interactions have also found a way into the finished piece.
