Introducing the ‘Epiphyte’ series by Matthew Prins. “The ‘Epiphyte’ series was inspired by houseplants in my home. I’m drawn to the weird roots and growth when the plants are not flowering. The grid is a graphic device that I often use in my work to reference the intersection of the natural world and our built environments (i.e. bath tiles, fences, window pains etc.).” - Matthew
Matthew is also also influenced by textile designs, in particular the fabrics of Josef Frank, the Austrian born Modernist architect celebrated for his wildly colourful fabrics. Like Frank’s fabrics, Matthew’ s work “has an optimism and hopefulness, a positivity and vibrancy that we all need in today’s world.” Maria Wiberg, curator at Stockholm’s Millesgården and Joseph Frank exhibition 2017.
